Every weekday at the Rescue Mission Alliance Valley Food Bank, something magical happens: hundreds, often times even thousands of pounds of fresh fruits, vegetables, and dairy products are donated for redistribution to our pantry network. With our new refrigeration and freezer units, we can keep fresh food out of the landfill—and put it in the hands of
people who need it most.

With a renewed emphasis to reduce nutritious edible food from going to the landfill and reinforce our commitment to ‘Fighting Hunger – Feeding Hope,’ new refrigeration units with expanded capability were needed. The food bank has been successful in acquiring donors to release great food resources but left scrambling each day to ensure the food was distributed to our pantry network or other non-profit agencies. Because of the generosity of the Albert and Elaine Borchard Foundation and The Ahmanson Foundation, we were able to expand our refrigeration capacity so we can process more foods that are perishable and ensure each pantry gets a diverse array of food resources.

We believe everyone deserves access to fresh, healthy foods. Pantry recipients often tell us they are trying to eat better but could not afford fresh food in their regular budget. Now they are telling us what a blessing it has been to be able to feed their families so many fresh fruits and vegetables.
